Rodriguez0 Tannia Rodriguez Professor Sharon James Health Care Management April 23, 2020 Annotated Bibliography Arnsperger, A., Short, S., Saunders, A., Cook, T., & Eubanks, T. (2019). Improving Staff Morale in the Respiratory Care Department. This journal article by Arnsperger and colleagues (2019) addresses how organizations could implement the power of open forums to improve employee satisfaction. The article proposes the use of a shared governance team and the leadership team to increase recognition of the issues facing employees. This leads to improved employee satisfaction. This journal will form an important backbone in articulating how open forums help employees express their concerns, improving employee satisfaction in the process. Joseph, J. (2016). Do Open/Collaborative Work Environments Increase, Decrease or Tend To Keep Employee Satisfaction Neutral? This article written by Joseph (2016) outlines that open or collaborative work environments have a possibility of increasing employee satisfaction. The article notes the importance of openness during communication in helping employees express themselves. It is established that open or collaborative work environments are likely to contribute to improving employee satisfaction. Khavis, J., & Krishnan, J. (2017). Employee satisfaction in accounting firms, work-life balance, turnover, and audit quality. Work-Life Balance, Turnover, and Audit Quality (December 21, 2017). Khavis and Krishnan wrote this journal to establish the factors that could lead to employee satisfaction in accounting firms. Their study indicated that culture and values, senior management, and career opportunities for employees could lead to improved employee satisfaction. This journal will be used in the paper to identify how senior management has played a vital role in improving employee satisfaction and better job retention. Reed, G. L. (2019). Leadership Strategies for Improving Employee Engagement in the Information Technology Industry. According to Reed, organizations should use the recognition strategy to recognize and appreciate the efforts take n by the employees. The employees know that they are valued, and their contributions are always appreciated. This will lead to higher employee satisfaction and the organization will be able to increase the productivity of the employees and retain the employees for longer periods. The Brooklyn Hospital Centre is a full-service community teaching hospital located in Downtown Brooklyn in New York City. The hospital has been functioning since the year 1845 and is commonly known for its service to people from different backgrounds. So that to serve the large number of people who visit the hospital every day, the healthcare requires many healthcare workers who are dedicated to help the patients in all the necessary ways. As a manager of the facility, I do understand that it is very important to have contented workers in the facility. The focus of my management strategy is to create an environment whereby the employees are free to work in the existing environment without necessarily being monitored so that to do their work. There are several leaders who hold the responsibility of ensuring that everything is under control in their allocated departments. They are in-charge of allocating duties and reporting the needs of the other workers. (Arnsperger, 2019) My role is to control the entire team of staff in the organization and to manage different resources necessary for the welfare of the facility. The leaders from different departments report the progress of their departments and make significant suggestion to my office. It is my role to allocate the necessary measures where necessary so that to ensure everything runs smoothly. (Joseph, 2016) So that to give better services to the clients, the management intends to improve the workers working methods. This initiative calls for strategic planning which will help in ensuring that everyone in the organization gives their best services hence improving the services offered. So that to achieve this, several strategies should be put in place. The first strategy is ensuring that the workers should feel appreciated and are a part of the institution. This means that several strategies should be incorporated so that to improve their satisfaction. Shared governance teams shall be incorporated in the leadership. The team shall consist of the members of the employees. They are the ones who interact with them every day meaning that they are aware of the problems that face the employees. After highlighting the most common problems, the management shall come up with strategies of solving the problems therefore giving the employees a better working environment. (Khavis & Krishnan, 2017) The employees might have problems that can be managed by the institution. A good example is the employees who get to work late or leave the institution late. This might be one of the issues facing them therefore affecting their concentration during work. Strategies such as facilitating their transportation can help to solve the problem therefore giving them peace. There are several other issues that the employees may not be able to point out directly to the management in person. That is way a team of representatives will help in highlighting these problems therefore giving the management a chance to solve the issues. Improving employees’ collaboration when performing different tasks is also important. People only give their best when they are happy and contented with what they do. The management intends to come up with different strategies of improving the bond between the employees. Through a creation of a friendly working environment, their satisfaction will be improved hence letting them give their level best when it comes to rendering the services. One of the ways of encouraging teamwork is discouraging unhealthy competitions within the working environment. The facility is concerned with offering very essential services to patients which means that unnecessary competition can only contribute to damage in the services offered. That is why it is very important to encourage the workers to work as a team which is aimed towards a common target. The management will also consider other important factors that can contribute to the employee satisfaction. Factors such as cultures and values of the organization are very important to the organization. The two can be revised so that to incorporate values and cultures aimed towards creating positive thinking perspectives. The senior management and career development opportunities will also be considered. Employees who qualify to occupy senior positions will not be locked out of promotions. Giving everyone an equal chance of developing their career will help them to work even harder through offering the clients better services. The employees can be developed through training processes and workshop participation. In case they attain the required developmental levels, they will be allowed to move up their current positions. Culture controls every aspect about how everyone conducts themselves in an organization. Employees enjoy working due to the cultures that they are adopted to, emphasizing on positivity when it comes to the culture will make them appreciate and feel in place while working for the organization. To improve employee satisfaction, it is important to let them understand that their contributions are appreciated. In case an employee achieves in their duties, the management will come up with ways of making the employee feel appreciated. This way, other will work on making the necessary improvements so that to also attain the required targets. Their ideas towards improving the institution in general shall also be accommodated and implemented where necessary. This way, the employees shall appreciate being a part of the organization hence giving their best. (Reed, 2019) Implementing the above strategies will improve the workers satisfaction hence improving the quality of services rendered in Brooklyn Hospital.
