I’m working on a social science multi-part question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Masturbation was never a topic we talked about in my family. That doesn’t mean it was necessarily a negative thing, but more of a private thing we did not discuss. I remember one time, I was masturbating in my room when I was about 15 or 16 years old, and my mom walked in. I know, embarrassing, but she instantly apologized, left my room, and closed the door behind her. I thought I could never interact with my mom again with how embarrassed I was, but she never brought it up, and we both acted like it never happened. I know I learned when I should masturbate and lock my door, and she learned to knock before entering, so it was a learning experience for both of us.
I learned a few things from this chapter that I didn’t expect to be true. I learned that masturbation helps women reduce or eliminate menstrual cramps if they masturbate before or during their period. I wouldn’t know how menstrual cramps feel, but that’s good information to know if the cramps are terrible and you need to relieve pain. Another thing I learned is that masturbation helps reduce stress, tension, and depressive symptoms. If you are having a stressful day or in a state of mind where you feel depressed, I never knew masturbation could calm your body that way. I knew it could help with sleeplessness, but masturbation helping with depressive symptoms is very interesting.
