But, as the United States population ages and people live longer, the statistics will grow. Imagine the context for elder abuse—it is not an isolated deviant activity removed from the broader context of family, work, and caregiving. Elder abuse occurs within and outside immediate family, since older family members can experience abuse and neglect in professional settings by paid caregivers and extended family.
