Reply 2– The three most significant components I selected to include in a lesson plan are an effective differentiation strategy, explicit course instruction, and accessible technology resources. Providing an effective differentiation strategy allows various technological ways for students to connect and understand course content by accessing digital resources such as text, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Including clear teachings and accessible technology, resources can encourage student engagement and enhance their knowledge in the collaborative learning process. (Khan et al., 2017).

Project-based learning is an approach to instruction and knowledge that engages learners in meaningful and reliable scholarship experiences (Kokotaski et al., 2016). PBL can support an instructor’s instructional practices to become transformative when including supportive direction and a commitment to innovation and current pedagogy (Kokotaski et al., 2016). Learners will gain knowledge and develop skills by investigating and engaging in course discussions. An example of PBL in a Sociology course would be engaging students in communication, critical thinking process, and collaborative activity to support learners through rigorous, hands-on, and interactive learning experiences.

It is essential for instructors to ensure instructional alignment in a college course because according to Light, Cox, and Calkins (2009), understanding courses in will not only help improve the design of a course, but it will improve principle of teach. They also believe that these objectives will improve how the information is delivered to the students in a more traditional way (Light, Cox, and Calkins, 2009). As students ourselves we understand the importance of our instructors achieving balance in what is taught and proving support and encouragement. For myself as a future instructor, my goal is to ensure that the information and how I deliver it is done to the best of my ability. To ensure this I will continue to teach and preach the fundamentals of learning.

Reply 3– When developing a lesson plan, the three essential components are clear learning objectives, the necessary materials, and the desired outcomes to guide the instructor. An instructor must plan the lesson with an end in mind and have a clear awareness of what they intend for their students to comprehend by the conclusion of the lesson (McClymont, 2016). The three components are necessary because when an instructor provides students with activities, this response supports them by putting into practice what has been taught theoretically. Also, the lesson objectives are important because it provides the student and the instructor the lesson’s focus. The instructor must be able to assess and evaluate if the students met the lesson’s objectives. (McClymont, 2016). Lesson plans are essential as they provide the instructor and the student with a clear sense of direction; when planned with intentionality, lessons are meant to guide and increase student learning (McClymont, 2016).

Project-based learning refers to a teaching style in which students acquire information and abilities by examining and responding to an authentic, appealing, multifaceted inquiry, difficulty, or challenge over a lengthy period of time (What is PBL, N.D.). An example of PBL in a Sociology class would be asking students to identify, define, analyze, and visualize an abstract concept (Wisdom, Freedom, Conflict, etc.). Students would be asked to implement it as a form of a research study where students would be required to gather adequate information and interpret, analyze and present the findings.
